Recent Events


Good Friday

A service was held on April 6 to commemorate the death of Jesus and to thank Him for dying in our place.

Palm Sunday

A celebration of Jesus' triumphal entry into Jerusalem the week before His death and resurrection.

2011


Christmas Eve Service

A half hour candlelight service was held to remember Jesus Christ's arrival on earth.

75th Anniversary Celebration

On Sunday, August 14 we held a special celebration to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Ottawa Missionary Church.

Vacation Bible School

The theme for this year's Vacation Bible School was SonSurf Beach Bash - where kids meet up with Jesus. It took place in the afternoons this year, from 1:00-3:45pm. It ran from June 6th through June 10th.

Family Night

We hosted a family night on May 2 - there was a potluck dinner at 6:00pm, followed by a program at 7:00 featuring Tammy Smith and her dogs.

Good Friday Service

We gathered on April 22 to commemorate God's provision for the forgivness of our sins.

Christmas Eve Service

A candle light Christmas Eve service was held at Ottawa Missionary Church on Dec. 24 at 6:00pm. It was a time of celebration and rememberance as we commemorated the birth of Jesus Christ and looked forward to His return!

Rich & Judy Witmer

Rich & Judy Witmer, missionaries to Bulgaria, spoke in the morning worship service on December 12, sharing about their ministry with the people.

Trinity in Concert and Thanksgiving Potluck Dinner

The community was invited to come on Wednesday, Nov. 17th for a Thanksgiving potluck dinner, held at the Ottawa Missionary Church at 6:00 P.M., followed by a musical concert at 7:00 P.M. by Trinity.

Trinity is a southern gospel musical group from Van Wert, Ohio. The group consists of vocalists Gary Adams, Cheryl Burk and Kim Mason. They are assisted by Stan Burk and Mark Hartman who handle the sound responsibilities.

The ensemble sings a wide variety of musical styles, ranging from contemporary and southern gospel to spiritual and traditional hymns. They have appeared on Christian television, and selections from their recordings are heard on Christian radio. The group is affiliated with Trinity Friends Church in Van Wert.

Trinity released their fifth recording project entitled "Welcome Home" in the fall of 2008, and recently signed with the Willowood recording label. Willowood Productions is a Christian based southern gospel record label located in Huntington, West Virginia.

Vacation Bible School

This year's theme was SONquest Rain Forest, where children went on a life-changing jungle journey, learning about God's amazing love and learning how to follow Jesus. It took place from June 7-11.





2009


Candlelight Christmas Eve Service

December 24

on Christmas Eve, 2009, a service was held by candle light at Ottawa Missionary Church to commemorate the birth of Jesus, God's son who came to earth in human form about 2,000 years ago. He is the one Christmas is all about. For more information, consult the book of Matthew, Mark, Luke, or John in a bible or visit a church. Sunday morning is usually a good time.



Christmas Program

December 20

On Sunday morning, Dec. 20, the children presented a short Christmas program celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ.




Gingerbread House Building

December 13

On December 13, the Women's ministry sponsored a fun afternoon of gingerbread house construction. Marilyn Metzger came providing supplies and guidance for the men, women, and children who enjoyed designing and building their own sweet structures.



Thanksgiving Celebration

November 18

The Ottawa Missionary Church hosted a Thanksgiving potluck dinner and concert on Nov. 18th at 6:00 P.M.

Broken Ground provided music at the concert held after the dinner.

Acorn Bank Breaking

On June 14, 2009 children and adults alike brought in their acorn banks for bank-breaking sunday. This year, $185.56 was raised and contributed toward the education of our missionaries' school-age children. (The plastic acorn-shaped banks are distributed each year to be filled with coins. Once a year, they are brought to church where the children can break them open.)

Vacation Bible School

This year's theme was SONrock Kid's Camp, where children learned that Jesus is God's son - the rock they can build their lives on. It took place from June 8-12.

2009 Mother-Daughter Banquet

This year's Mother-Daughter banquet was held on May 3, 2009. Guest speaker Jan Riffle showed us her doll collection and the event's theme was "Doll Hospital."


Bishop-Stahl Wedding Shower

The Ottawa Missionary Church hosted a wedding shower for Terri Bishop and Ben Stahl on March 15, 2009.



2008


Vacation Bible School

Vacation Bible School took place from July 21-25, 2008. This year's theme was "SONworld Adventure Park" and followed an amusement park motif.


Steve & Sheila Harrigan

Special guests Steve and Sheila Harrigan came to speak in the Sunday Morning service on June 22. They updated us on Steve's recent Peace Mission trip to Darfur, West Africa. On his trip, he showed the locals how to use solar cookers to heat their food without the use of firewood, which is scarce in their region.


Dr. Paul Brennan

Dr. Paul Brennan, an Ottawa native, was a guest speaker for the Sunday Morning service on May 25. He was visiting from Hawaii, where he currently lives. He gave a Memorial Day sermon titled "God Remembers."


Mother-Daughter Banquet

Ottawa Missionary Church hosted their annual Mother-Daughter Banquet on May 4, 2008. The theme was "A Bag of Surprises," and the featured guest speaker was Jeanene Pifer, who gives herself the title of "Toledo's other Bag Lady."
